The Project and Acoustic Finishes |

Large shopping centres often have large food courts. These spaces tend to have many food outlets and a large screen with entertainment. The air volume of the food court also tends to be large. The result if not treated acoustically – a really noisy place to try and enjoy your food. Tygervalley Shopping Centre in Cape Town, recently underwent an upgrade, the food court was included in this upgrade as they decided to install a large HD (high definition) screen with line arrays and bass speakers (normally used for concerts). The acoustics needed dealing with in order to prevent the space sounding like a ‘drum’ during events. (it also gave us an opportunity to improve the overall acoustics of the space for general use). The acoustic treatment used were acoustic plasterboard both on the side-walls and ceiling of the food court, approximately 2500 m² was used in the finished installation. Once completed the overall acoustic performance of the large volume was incredible. |
