Mackenzie Hoy Consulting Engineers were appointed by the University of Cape Town to investigate an issue, where noise was coming through the ceiling and disturbing the students and classes being taught. We found that a drain pipe from the kitchen above had been installed without adequate lagging and the water supply to a kitchen and bathroom above was set at a too higher pressure level, creating a high pitch noise from which disturbed the students. Outside the lecture theatre entrance was also a foyer area, where the internal acoustics were not ideal due to that the reverberation time of the foyer being very high. Mackenzie Hoy Consulting Engineers designed and specified a new acoustic ceiling for the area which vastly improved the overall acoustics. We have only received compliments from the UCT staff so far! |
