The Project |
|
The old Boston Substation consisted of three 20 MVA transformers. The facility is located within a residential area. The City of Cape Town received complaints from several residents, at neighbouring domestic dwellings, that the noise from the substation was disturbing. We designed a new barrier for the transformers that would screen the noise they generated. The barrier had a modular design such that it could be dismantled for maintenance of the transformers. A new substation building was constructed in 2011, for which Mackenzie Hoy Consulting Engineers provided a noise control design. The transformers were moved into the new substation building. There have been no subsequent noise complaints from the nearby domestic dwellings. |
